Heather Wurtz, PhD is the Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Pandemic Journaling Project. She earned her PhD in Sociomedical Sciences/Anthropology at Columbia University. Her research draws primarily on qualitative and ethnographic methods to examine social and health inequalities, with particular attention to the role of migration and human mobility, gender and sexuality, social movements, and the social impact of policy. Her work has received support from the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and Columbia University’s Institute of Latin American Studies. In addition to academic scholarship, Dr. Wurtz has worked as an independent research consultant on a range of global health projects with organizations such as the United Nations Refugee Agency and the MenEngage Alliance for Gender Equality. She is also Managing Editor for the journal Global Public Health.

Heather is jointly appointed in the Human Rights Institute and Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut and the Population Studies and Training Center at Brown University.
