Interested in a fieldwork opportunity this summer? Check out the excavations in Hohle Fels cave, which will run from May 5th through August 29th 2025. This program is run through the University of Tübingen, and focuses on paleolithic excavations.

About:

Excavations in the Lone and Ach valleys of the Swabian Jura have produced early examples of figurative art and musical instruments and contribute to many questions including the origins of cultural modernity, Neanderthal extinction, and the arrival of anatomically modern humans in Europe

Hohle Fels Cave provides an important record for the cultural stratigraphy of the Middle and Upper Paleolithic. This year’s excavation focus on Aurignacian and Middle Paleolithic layers.

Dates and terms of participation:
Excavations will take place from May 5th until August 29th in Hohle Fels near Schelklingen, South-Western Germany. Spots are available for excavators with field experience. Parallel to the fieldwork, team members participate in water screening, sorting, labeling of finds and data management. Accommodation and communal meals are provided.
